34 weeks!

What’s going on this week:
Your baby now weighs about 4 3/4 pounds (like your average cantaloupe) and is almost 18 inches long. Her fat layers — which will help regulate her body temperature once she’s born — are filling her out, making her rounder. Her skin is also smoother than ever. Her central nervous system is maturing and her lungs are continuing to mature as well. If you’ve been nervous about preterm labor, you’ll be happy to know that babies born between 34 and 37 weeks who have no other health problems generally do fine. They may need a short stay in the neonatal nursery and may have a few short-term health issues, but in the long run, they usually do as well as full-term babies.
My Update:
Due Date: November 4, 2011 – (since I’m late updating this week, as of today, I’m actually 34w5d, so only 37 days to go!)
Weight Gain: +22 lbs from pre-preg weight.
Symptoms: Stretch marks. Snoring. Fatigue. Achey hips and back. Pregnancy is glamorous!
Cravings/Aversions: No change. Although I did have my very first bout of pregnancy heartburn the other night in the middle of the night. No fun.
Sleep: OK. The snoring is tough on Scott, and I’m having to get up about 3 or 4 times a night to pee, and sitting up in bed is kind of painful, so I have to sit on the edge for a minute before actually standing up, but I still fall asleep really easily, so overall, I can’t complain.
I am loving: That the nursery is pretty much DONE! Except for some small decorative details, all the major components are completed. WHEW!!
I miss: Family. It was a crazy, hectic weekend with lots of visitors, and while I’m glad to get back to a normal routine, I miss everyone, too. Lisa, Ada, Mom, Dad, Ali, Grace, Meredith and Tripp all came to town for the baby shower and Karen and Jim drove up for the day. I am so lucky to have such great family.
Movement: Good – I think that one night this weekend, he flipped – I noticed I could feel hiccups high on my right side, but by the next day, I felt them way down low again, so maybe he just needed a quick change of scenery? At my midwife appt yesterday, she did a lot of feeling around (it was painful, in case you were wondering – so much so that she made my uterus contract a couple of times, which, thankfully didn’t hurt) and was pretty positive he was head down again, so that was good.
Nursery progress: See above = DONE! There will be a separate post soon with pictures and details.
Exercise: Nothing specific to speak of. This weekend was very active, though, so now I’m recuperating and trying to take it easy.
Looking forward to: Ummm….with all the visiting and showers over, I’m kind of at a loss for something to look forward to. Maybe having this baby? 😉
